Hi everyone, I am travelling to Finland in around one week (Feb 2025) and was wondering how the current snow situation is?

I am very interested in seeing the snow-crowned forests, and my research says Riisitunturi National Park is a great site, but my impression (which I hope is wrong) is that there is not that much snow by now. How is it really?

We will be going to Levi, Saariselka and Kuusamo, so if you think of any other good spot or must-do's around these areas, as well as any tips, impresions and opinions from people currently in the area would be greatly appreciated!

  1. There’s less than on average but there is still lot of it, unless it stays above zero and rains untill your trip it should be fine. But it has been unusually warm all over. Hope you have a nice trip.

FMI (finnish meteorolgy institute) sayis Rovaniemi has about 35-40cm. https://en.ilmatieteenlaitos.fi/ you can follow and check spesific areas from there, click statistics and then snow statistics

  2. In Saariselkä you can ski in Urho Kekkonen national park. You can get guided tours or just ski by yourself. There’s a track that goes to the top of Kaunispää, which I really recommend.

There seems to be most snow now in Finland: [https://www.foreca.fi/lumensyvyys](https://www.foreca.fi/lumensyvyys)

  3. It was really bad in Kuusamo two weeks ago. All the buildup melting away because of a couple of days of warm weather. Since then it was quite cold for a week, and it’s been snowing quite a bit after that, so everything looks a lot better again, not as good as last year though, not even close.
