  4. The majority of our debt post 2000 is due to Republican tax cuts for the super wealthy.

    This is not fixable without broad tax increases or massive dismantling of America’s already feeble social support networks. So they’ll try that, but even that won’t really fill the hole they’ve blown in the budget.

    But these guys want more tax cuts for the rich. And are going to get them.

  6. Today at work, my office was really quiet because we know we’re probably going to lose our jobs soon due to this. You could feel the sadness and tension in the air.

  10. I’m growing quite concerned on the mental capacity of a 78 year senior citizen who is making these decisions that will cause harm to millions in the country. Perhaps a lengthy 4 year investigation and persistent media around this matter will do the trick.

  11. I’m not sure that the top level executive officials actually understood what that grant/loan funding freeze order would do. It seems to have done more than anyone really anticipated, as it turns out that a lot of things are technically funded in that way.

    Part of why I think that is that it has this wording about the agency needing to follow applicable law, but did not itself contain any specifics about how to do that. It is like they didn’t even think about what laws might be violated by unilaterally cutting an appropriated funding stream.
