Children are abused for those images to exist and viewing them creates a market demand for more kids to be abused. So the legal system needs to treat it like a violent crime.

I’ve been living in this country for some 11 years now and it still amazes me how everybody seems to be aligned that the current law & justice system is outdated and absolutely not fit for purpose and yet, throughout those 11 years… nothing has changed in that regard. How are people not out on the streets demanding a change is beyond me.

Things like this have to be another aspect of garda morale being low.

I read somewhere a while back that there’s a reason why Nolan gets so many of these kinds of cases, though I can’t remember what that reason was (it may have been that more serious cases are dealt with elsewhere), and that while it appears he’s more lenient that we think he ought to be his sentences aren’t out of line with those from other judges on similar cases, based on the fact that they generally (or always) aren’t acts of recidivism and where full cooperation is given with admissions of guilt etc., but if only seems suspicious because he deals with a massive number of such cases.

Kiddy fiddling – no jail.
Revenue fiddling – 6 years in jail, as a ‘deterrence’.
Is it the judges or our lack of prison space the cause for all these suspended sentences?
If a judge repeatedly gives pedophiles a break he should have his own harddrive examined.

This is the man who handed out a 6 year sentence to someone who didn’t pay tax on imported garlic. How is he allowed to keep letting the worst type of offenders possible, walk away with no prison time?

I read earlier on about a lad with no prior convictions, makes an stupid move and drove a van with a bunch of weed in it, got 6 years and actually sounded like a decent person for once. Just how in the fuck does this get a suspended sentence?
