  8. The Aldi own brand ones are so much better the cake is softer and you get more jam. The McVities one are so dry. Aldi have also started doing cherry Bakewell Jaffa cakes and they are incredible

  14. I have never found a worse version of the Jaffa Cake than McVities. I think it’s the only example of the originator being far worse than any available derivative. Best are definitely either the Bahlsen, Lu, or M&S versions.

  17. Polish Jaffa cakes are much better. So many varieties to choose from too! My favourite being the cherry ones.

  19. I eat cerial every morning and I’ve noticed with a few times where shop-brand products have just become far superior to the things they were copying. Brands ruin their recipies to avoid raising their prices, sugar taxes, or use ‘less fat recipie’ as an excuse to skimp out on taste. The shops are still imitating the products from their peak.

    Cookie Crisp is now tiny and flavourless, whereas Tesco’s version still has a the old size and the sheen of sugar. Just need to find a version of Choco Shreddies that actually tastes of chocolate, they used to practically ooze with chocolate, now the thin dusting of powder just washes straight off.

  23. Stop buying products from McVities, Heinz and Cadbury. They’re taking the pish and laughing at you whilst they do it.

  24. Sack the ‘main brands’ off, they are generally complete rip off merchants and don’t deserve to be in business.

  26. I know it’s just a biscuit (or cake !) but this genuinely upsets me. They are nostalgic to me and seeing this pathetic offering and how successive generations will never know what they were truly like is indicative of so much change for the worse. Like Cadburys chocolate. Like Quality Street. So many things will never be the same.

    The summers were hotter when I was a child and there was snow at Christmas . Okay, well I may have made that bit up.

  30. Just talking about superior alternatives yesterday, when the knock off brand becomes better than the known brand.
