The Miami Dolphins will be the home team for the Madrid game at Bernabéu Stadium.
MADRID, Spain — The Washington Commanders could be part of more history in the 2025 season. The NFL announced its first-ever game in Spain, and the Burgundy and Gold could be headed to Madrid.
The league announced earlier this month that the Miami Dolphins would be the designated home team for the new addition to the NFL’s international game lineup. The Madrid game will take place at the iconic Bernabéu Stadium, home to Spanish soccer team Real Madrid C.F, in partnership with the city of Madrid and Comunidad de Madrid.
“We are thrilled to play the NFL’s inaugural game in Spain, a country of rich history, tradition and passion and home to a vibrant Dolphins fanbase,” said Miami Dolphins vice chairman, president and CEO Tom Garfinkel in a statement. “There is a hunger for football in this market, and we are proud to join with the NFL in growing the game internationally while engaging with old and new fans alike. With the unique synergy between Miami and Madrid, we believe this is only the beginning for us in this incredible region and we look forward to bringing the excitement and community of Dolphins football to Spain in 2025 and beyond.”
While the Dolphins’ opponent has not yet been announced, there is a chance that the Commanders could go international.
The Commanders announced their opponents for the 2025 season in early January. They are playing one away game against the Dolphins next season. The Dolphins also play Bills, Patriots, Jets, Ravens, Bengals, Chargers, Saints, Buccaneers at home next season.
Beyond the Madrid game, the NFL will play two regular season games in London featuring the New York Jets and the Cleveland Browns as designated teams. The league will also host one game in Berlin, Germany.
To date, the NFL has hosted 55 international games. To register for information on the Madrid game, click here.
