What does “Denken frei”mean here?

  1. It means “Thinking/thought free”. It’s not a real traffic sign, but was presumably put up by someone who was trying to make some kind of point.

  2. “[x] frei” when used on street signs means “[x] is allowed.” So here when it says “Anlieger frei,” it means “residents are allowed [to drive here]”.

So “Denken frei” means “thinking is allowed/free.” Probably sort of a reference to the old song [“Die Gedanken sind frei”](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Die_Gedanken_sind_frei).

Considering the times we live in, I get the vibe that it was probably put up by some conspiracy theorist type, but it’s hard to say for sure because the statement is intensely vacuous and can mean whatever you want.

  3. in the surrounding area around this sign, the citizen is allowed to think whatever he wants from monday to friday between 11:27 a.m. and 1:07 p.m.
