I’m old enough to remember when Canada had more home grown manufacturing and companies before in the late 90s and early 00s US companies started moving in en masse. We did it before and can do it again.
Unfortunately there are some areas where we are very vulnerable. One obvious example is actually food.
A lot of our fruits (e.g. apples) are from the US. It’ll be hard and expensive to replace.
As an American, I hope that the entire world bans American made products/resources.

It’s gone beyond food. Canadians are cancelling travel in droves as well.
If the world has any fucking sense they’ll blanket boycott everything American until America gets its shit together again.

As a Canadian, this is 100% me, my household full fledged, all-in. pantry, freezer, refrigerator.
Many of the brands people have been suggesting to switch to, to avoid american brands, are themselves owned by american companies.

Trump is actually doing one good thing though. He’s uniting Canada in hating him, because even the majority of our conservatives hate him. The right and left aren’t fighting each other, we’re all fighting Trump now.
It is up to us to act together. Not only food.
We need to stop buying anything American from cars to booze to food to trips and vacations to big ticket items, we need to boycott anything American immediately. Should stop buying Teslas too, they are crapy anyway! Looking for a new car , look for nonamerican cars. Anything made in USA should not be bought by us
Canada is the biggest market for American exports. The reason American has a deficit for goods is Canada’s crude oil. America has a trade surplus for services.
The free trade agreement lets Americans buy raw materials at the same price as Canadians can.
What an idiot move to rip that up.

I mean, lots of these companies closed their Canadian plants and ship from the us now. Cambells is a great example of this. Now would be a good time to make an example of this being a poor decision.

Cancelled 100K order for my business from the US after 10 years doing business with them. Last time I went down to their office for a meeting they had trump signs on their property in front of their warehouse. I told the salesman I was not happy about them, he said it was none of my business. So I gave them none of mine.
I did it after meeting with my managers who all agreed . Did it over a speaker phone in front of all my staff. I explained why, he (the owner) starting yelling and cursing at me , I had the whole staff in unison tell him go fuck himself and his company. He then threatened to sue , at which we just laughed as we don’t have a contract to purchase as it ran out yesterday.
