Proposal from Danish government to ban all sales of tobacco for everyone born in 2010 or later

  1. I’m really not a fan of prohibition, even against tobacco. It demonstrably doesn’t work.

On top of that, IMO there’s a moral issue with trying to tell people what they get to do with their own bodies. I mean hell, unhealthy food kills WAY more people than tobacco, shall we ban sale of that as well?

  2. Inspiration from New Zealand, but that is an island state rather isolated from neighboring countries.

Denmark is a transit nation with foreign ships and trucks arriving and leaving at all times https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-59589775

So question is if it will be “accepted” by that generation and the ones to come. If they begin to consider smoking revolting, there really is no need for the ban at all.

Maybe in a hundred plus years or so we will see a headline news cast: “The last smoker in Denmark dies. Thousands of people asks the google gene what is a smoker”

Google gene = genetic alteration to humans to allow instant and constant internet access.

  3. If they’re going to ban it (which I’m against) they should at least have the courage to ban it properly and not have this nonsense gradual ban where it’s legal for some people to buy it and not others.
