Congratulations to Princess Beatrice and her husband, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, who have welcomed their second child together, Buckingham Palace has confirmed. Beatrice gave birth to a daughter, Athena Elizabeth Rose, on 22 January at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital in London, with Mapelli Mozzi writing on Instagram that the entire family is “already completely besotted with her”. Their first baby together, Sienna Elizabeth, was born in September 2021, joining Wolfie, Mapelli Mozzi’s son from a previous relationship.

Athena and Sienna’s shared middle name is believed to be a tribute to the late Queen Elizabeth II, with whom Beatrice was famously close. At the couple’s intimate wedding at Windsor Castle in July 2020, the Princess wore one of her grandmother’s Norman Hartnell gowns, with both the Queen and Prince Philip in attendance at the ceremony. Beatrice had previously opened up to Vogue about the difficulty of navigating the protocols of royal dressing in the public eye: “We are the first,” she said, referring to herself and her sister, Eugenie. “We are young women trying to build careers and have personal lives, and we’re also princesses.”
The 36-year-old Princess was a long-time friend of property developer Mapelli Mozzi, 41, before they started dating in October 2018. The pair announced their engagement less than a year later, with Edoardo having proposed in Italy.
