Princess Beatrice has given birth to her second child, Athena, Buckingham Palace has announced.
Her daughter, Athena Elizabeth Rose Mapelli Mozzi, is one of the first children, and the first royal, born into Generation Beta, which spans those born between 2025-2039.
Athena arrived on 22 January at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital in London, several weeks prematurely, weighing 4lb 5oz. However, the Palace confirmed the both mother and daughter ‘are healthy and doing well’.
Their statement on Instagram read: ‘Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrice and Mr Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi are delighted to announce the safe arrival of their daughter, Athena Elizabeth Rose Mapelli Mozzi, born on Wednesday, 22nd January, at 12:57pm, at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, London.
‘The baby was born weighing 4 pounds and 5 ounces. Their Majesties The King and Queen and other members of The Royal Family have all been informed and are delighted with the news.’
‘Princess Beatrice and Mr Mapelli Mozzi would like to thank all the staff at the hospital for their wonderful care,’ the Palace continued. ‘The family are enjoying spending time together with Athena’s older siblings, Wolfie and Sienna.’
Her father Edoardo said: ‘She is tiny and absolutely perfect’ and the family was ‘completely besotted with her’.
Athena is the grandchild of Prince Andrew, the Duke of York, and Sarah, the Duchess of York, making her 11th in line to the throne.
‘Overflowing with love and joy to be able to welcome Athena Elizabeth Rose into the world. She is already so adored and I’m incredibly blessed to be a Granny once again. So proud of Edo, Beatrice and the rest of my little 5-a-side team! ❤️’, the Duchess of York wrote on social media.
