this country has some strange priorities

  1. If you’re talking about Stonehenge, that’s not what it is. It is not just an ‘old rock’ it is so much more than that. Stonehenge is a historical, important monument.

  2. No one is saying it’s not an issue, just inconveniencing common people who are already struggling is not the way to win them over. Just stop oil have only accomplished increased emissions through blocking traffic and low level vandalism, not really inspiring now is it?

  3. Yeah calling stonehenge old rock is like calling Westminster Abbey Old rock.

  4. I mean I’m all for reducing environmental impact, but the largest problem is industry, and another issue is people will pick and choose what they want to be environmentally righteous about i.e., it’s by far more environmentally friendly to be plant based but the large majority of people won’t change their diet to reduce the impact to the planet, or it’s increasingly worse to have children for the environment yet people still have kids, or it’s far better to cycle or use public transport than to drive a car but less convenient

Also, all of this is nothing in comparison to places like Russia, China, India, USA, most of Africa, etc. , who have enormous land masses and poor ecological policies

So while I agree with the sentiment of stop oil, hypocrisy is rife and what the individual Brit does has very little impact to the larger global situation

  5. Yeah why should we care about the oldest human made thing on the island?

  6. You’re exactly correct. Those decrying these mild tactics by activists are sitting at home doing nothing – disingenuous hypocrites who don’t want to investigate past a daily mail headline.

  7. Just Stop Oil posting here now? Hope you end up in prison with the rest of those cunts.

  8. This is easily the shittest meme I have ever come across. Maybe eating a higher quality protein will help get the creative juices flowing 😂

  9. People living in the UK have a much greater carbon footprint than in most of the rest of the world.

UK emissions are about 5 tonnes of CO2 / person / year; Nigeria is 0.55 tonnes / person / year. Most other third world countries have similar scores.

So to save the precious island you say you care about we ought to do everything we can to reduce global emissions. So when are we deporting everyone not born in the UK?

    /s

  10. Partisan issues aside, and showing my ignorance of the particular news story, but what damage was caused by just stop oil at the henge? I thought they defaced it, but left it undamaged, like how there is a difference between throwing paint on a shielded painting and actually destroying the art?

  11. This sub’s really been going down the shitter lately

  12. Gods, the oil industry has propagandised well, hasn’t it?

  13. Imagine spraying a piece of history with orange paint, water soluble or not and then being like ‘why is no one joining our cause!?’

Coz the only footage of just stop oil I’ve seen are being annoying cunts and not in any constructive way that actually stops oil even for a short period of time

  14. China has caused more pollution in 8 years than the entire UK since the industrial revolution and India isn’t that far behind pollution wise.

Last I checked Stonehenge didn’t contribute to pollution that much beyond people visiting it.

I’m convinced just stop oil is bankrolled by oil Companies who want to push people toward heavy consumption of oil.

  15. Because vandalism is vandalism.  What does stone henge have to do with oil?

The only thing achieved here was driving more people away from caring about this stuff.

You think this sort of behavior is driving more unaligned too or against the green movement.  They need to pack it the fuck in before they make everyone who gives a shit get tarred with their hyperactive, look at me, performative bullshit.

    Edit: typo in my rant

  16. Moaning about the island degrading but never mentions the monumental population explosion we’ve had. More houses, more roads, more polution more consumption, more waste, less trees. Yea spray that on stone henge

  17. If they attacked fossil fuel companies, and politicians they would get support ..

But they attack public easy targets, because they are too afraid to actually stand up for their principals

  18. OK, can I have their addresses and spray shit on their homes? Are you OK with nazis turning up every week and daubing water soluble swastikas?

The point of democracy and free speech is that we decide how we do things in a civilised manner. You want less use of fossil fuels? OK, stand for election. Right, you do and you generally get about 5% of the vote. At that point, what you’re supposed to do is to either accept defeat or accept that your message is wrong, or maybe modify what you offer to something more acceptable.

Spraying shit on Stonehenge is like losing at football and deciding you’re going to walk the ball over the line.

  19. I can be for renewables and sustainability and still think JSO are a set of absolute twunts.

  20. Yes fossil fuels may be bad, however if you want to get the message across this is not the way of going about, it was carried out by some woofters destroying the very things they are trying to protect.

  21. The people who vandalised stone henge are fucking cunts and should be given to the druids who gather there for a sacrifice 😊

  22. Yes it’s a serious issue and yes, securing the future should take precedent over romanticising the past, but Just Stop Oil never achieve anything with this stuff. It’s supposed to be shock value that captures headlines and gets people talking, sure, but that had never actually resulted in any change. If it worked, something would have happened by now. But they still do it, which makes them seem misguided at best and makes a lot of people unwilling to engage in the conversation they’re supposed to be driving. The best they get is an eye roll and the worst they get is outrage at the, not at the issues they’re trying to highlight.

  23. Don’t even bother mate, they’ve committed the worst crime known to man: mildly inconveniencing people and being annoying.

  24. Because uk only can stop and reverse global warming, and change of climate xD

  25. I mean yeah, that’s the point they’re trying to make, innit? It’s just most people are too deliberately dense or reactionary to realise it.

  26. I am absolutely convinced that Oil companies covertly fund Just Stop Oil vand encourage this behaviour via useful idiots.

I cant understand a world where they think their stunts does anything other than turn people against their cause. People like the OP have taken a message most people agree with and created one of the most despised movements in the country.

These activists seem like narcissists to me more concerned with getting attention than their message.

  27. This is why people shouldn’t have been cheering on excessive sentences for peoples rude behaviour during Southport protests/riots, and years for internet comments.

The door is open for excessive sentences to all now, this isn’t to say no sentence is appropriate, but don’t be surprised if people start getting 4 or 5 for their stupidity.
