  4. It’s no secret this is coming. I live in Upstate NY. If Ontario retaliates as they have threatened to do and cuts electrical power to NY our grid will go down. It can’t possibly make up for a 30% loss from hydropower from Niagara Falls and the St Lawrence. I hope it can be controlled with some kind of load shedding. But I am considering where I can go if this happens.

  23. Does this mean his reconfigured NAFTA is null and void? My advice to Canada is to stop recognizing patents/IP laws/tech bullshit laws the US demanded for that new treaty. Sell access to codes that disable bricking equipment like John Deere and allow people to repair their own tractors, other farming equipment, automobiles and trucks. Sell it at premium. It will sell like hotcakes. Sell us a fix/hack for HPs printers so we can use unauthorized ink without a subscription

  29. At this point, Canada needs to look at a pre-free trade economy. It’s not like we were all starving before the first free trade deal or before NAFTA.

    But we have to be very smart and explore any and all opportunities. Lock the country down when it comes to the US, especially when it comes to natural resources. Massive export fees on all of it, including the oil. Eliminate all provincial trade barriers. Be as protectionist as the orange idiot and defend ourselves in every way possible. Form alliances—trade and otherwise—outside of the traditional US-led system that’s run the world since 1945.

    We should have prepared for this after 2016-2020. It’s not just Trump; the US system is hopelessly corrupt. Look at the executive order thing. How the fuck is this sort of thing even possible in a democracy? They elect a king who can betray allies and trash trade agreements with the stroke of a pen.
