>”I think Goonies was quite an accident,” Brolin, 56, said of landing the part of Brand Walsh in the classic coming-of-age film. “I went in there, I’ve been told, they pulled the Brolin thing, ‘Are you [James] Brolin’s kid? You want to be an actor, huh?’ So instead of that nepotistic thing, they looked at me and were like, ‘Oh yeah? So act.’ ”
>”I studied,” he told Lowe, 60. “I got Stanislavski books, Grotowski … and Antonin Artaud and the Theatre of Cruelty. I stayed in a bookstore 90 percent of the time. Just reading, reading, reading.”
>”And I just looked right for the part,” Brolin said. “You look at Sean Astin, you look at the type of movie it is, I looked like a bit of a bad boy, but sort of a jock, and I was in good shape, so they were like, that’s the guy. I went back six times, just so they could make sure, and then I did it.”
Meanwhile most actors without famous parents wouldn’t be asked to audition again at all.
Brolin name dropping Artaud while preparing for the daunting task of portraying a big bro in a children’s film is kind of hilarious. He is a great actor, though
The same guy said I’ll quit acting if they snub the Oscar’s. How can we believe anything actors say anymore. Even Selma Gomez post feels like a Pr stunt for Emilia Pérez. Entertainment just ain’t what it used to be
I like how people assume Josh Brolin is like a macho cowboy or jock in real life based on his roles, but he’s more of an artsy theater geek. I mean, he’s the kid of an actor, after all.
Um no dude. You were already in the room because of that “nepotistic thing”. They didn’t take you less seriously. It was already your part to lose. He’s an incredible actor now. But getting in the room is one of the hardest parts and for nepos it isn’t even a hurdle.
He’s missing the point. He got auditioned.
Shut it brolin, you were prob given that many chances because of it
I’ve heard Brolin talk about nepotism a few times and every time he is so out of touch.
He doesn’t want to admit how many opportunities he had because of who he is.
I like him as an actor, but he’s clueless.
Guess they weren’t aware of his award winning performance as Corey Webster
Ugh, the more I hear this guy run his mouth the more I don’t like him. His WTF Marc Maron interview was filled with him acting like he had it tuff growing up. You were a freaking little rich kid stop trying to be something else.
This guy either has the most interesting life ever or is a great bullshitter.
Do all of you cynical, miserable asses just think the children of famous people shouldn’t act or make music? They didn’t choose their parentage any more than the rest of us and that’s a dumb ass thing to gripe about.
He also got access to auditions and an agent and acting training; and film set experience because of nepotism
We all didn’t
The Goonies had 5 sequels?
All i read is that he got in the room 6 more times than an actor without famous parents
His father James Brolin was known for kind of cheesy tv shows at the time. It might have helped him get in the door but might have had the casting directors wondering if he really was any good.
Just realized that technically Josh’s stepmom/dad’s spouse is Barbara Streisand.
He’s such a fart face
yeah, love him, but otherwise good.
Name dropping some Grotowski and Artaud. My man.
