Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that President Trump’s interest in acquiring Greenland and regaining control of the Panama Canal is motivated by national security concerns regarding Chinese influence in the Arctic and Latin America. Ahead of his trip to Central America, Rubio emphasized that while he could not predict the success of these endeavors, they would enhance U.S. interests in both regions. He expressed concerns about Chinese investments in Panama, suggesting that they could threaten the canal’s operations during conflicts. Rubio also criticized the current costs for American ships using the canal, arguing that they should not be overcharged given the U.S. investment in its construction. Despite Panamanian President José Raúl Mulino’s firm stance against negotiating canal ownership, Rubio indicated that the topic would still be addressed during his visit.

It blows my mind that the US had full control of the canal, including both of Panama’s major ports, plus full sovereignty, customs rights, military bases, *the right to ban Panama’s interoceanic railways/roads and radio*, and a chokehold on the most important canal in history for a full 85 years (with some hiccups like the Taft Agreement) and this man has the gall to claim the US got the short end of the stick.

   Panama does have a sizable Chinese-Panamanian community that’s been there over a hundred years. They’re Panamanian, not Chinese. Lies, paranoia and sinophobia all rolled up into one.

   “The US is concerned that the Chinese own too many restaurants in San Francisco, says Sec. Rubio”, it could cause issues in the event of war. I mean, how loyal are these Chinese? What’s in the food? Have you ever noticed that when you eat Chinese food you are only full for like 10 min and then minutes you are hungry again? We need to consider the NatSec ramifications. That is why Pres. Trump is considering a ban on all Ramen and Dumplings.”

8. Trump should just build a canal from the Gulf of Mexico to San Diego, along the southern border. Solve two of his made up problems in one easy move.
