A hospital volunteer and former cancer patient was surprised to meet King Charles at a cancer charity event.
Andy Doughty, who volunteers at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in King’s Lynn, met the King at the Move Against Cancer event on Saturday, January 25.
The event celebrated its one-year anniversary with a surprise visit from His Majesty, who was diagnosed with cancer last year.
Mr Doughty, who was a finalist in the 2024 TeamQEH Awards, is a regular volunteer and often greets people at the hospital front desk or in the Macmillan treatment rooms.
He said: “I never thought my cancer journey would lead me to meeting the King.
“It was just a normal Saturday for me and then all of a sudden the King was joining us.
“I spoke to him about my cancer and treatment and it was great to meet him.
“I can’t believe what an uplifting experience it was.“
The monthly Move Against Cancer event aims to support people living with and beyond cancer, and includes a 5k walk, jog or run.
