Reminds me of when I was in China in 2005… I got on a public bus somewhere about 150km outside of Nigbo, in a place where most of the locals had never seen a non-Asian person before…. After a couple stops, this old woman got on with a plastic bag of groceries. The bag was white with a red and blue American stars-and-stripes design and said in giant letters ” **’T AMERIKAANTJE** ” with the address of the store in Kontich (could be another town) on it…
I didn’t have a camera and smartphones didn’t exist, but it was definitely one of the more surreal experiences of the trip.
