‘We’re heading towards a war economy,’ Taoiseach Micheál Martin warns

  1. He’s some man to be at the helm during a global pandemic, Brexit, and now war.

A man with no ambition for the country, and is only in the job due to his personal fear of being the only FF party leader to never be Taoiseach.

  2. Ireland has the capacity to feed multiples of our current population so I’m sure our government has a plan in place to mitigate this …so sure I am

Edit: to avoid replying to everyone repeating ‘Meat and Dairy’ , the plan would hopefully consist of increasing our crop of veg and fruit no ? That’s why it’s called a “plan”

  3. No such thing as a war economy unless we have munitions factories, shipyards… This is all a ruse to cripple the majority, mortgages will be impossible to pay, all our land and properties will be hoovered up by non entities, the country flooded with cheap labour (refugees). We need a national strike and huge demonstrations quickly before we sink into the abyss.

  4. I would sincerely hope that having put all the effort into the EU and the Common Agricultural policy we are not likely to left to fend for ourselves in this and we won’t be. This is something the EU will face as a bloc. It’s not the 1940s and Europe has a huge food supply system. The issue is more about what could be very serious price rises in certain commodity items – notably grains, fertilisers, feed stock grains and also energy.

Hopefully this calms down soon, but it’s not unreasonable to be preparing for something fairly significant and I would think it’s rather prudent for the state and the supply chains to do so.

Most likely we are looking at significant inflation rather than food shortages though.

The issue globally however could mean that places with food security risks are going to suffer very badly. A few % on commodity prices could trip some countries into pretty serious situations.

  5. Is this what the UK are doing? Maybe we’d have more of a choice if we had home rule.

If these occupiers stay in government we will all go down with the Euro and our debt based economy.
