People parrot these two statements all the time and it immediately shows that they have no understanding of how the system works.
The Crown Estate pays *100% tax*. All of their income is given to the Treasury (that is the government) and they then get a certain percentage back through what’s called the Sovereign Grant.
Your tax money *does not* fund the royal family. They fund themselves, *and* they give the government a lot of money (they only get something like 20% back through the Sovereign Grant meaning the government keeps 80% of the income from the Crown Estate).
Someone will always own the land you live on. Or do you plan on living in a completely government free world?
Somebody please get British History & British Government History on to the syllabus at every primary and secondary school in the land and commonwealth. This should be ingrained in our knowledge. I’m not saying sugar coat anything but just inform.
