I think he was in a bind. Sturgeon is one of those populist politicians like Trudeau or Blair. She glossed over inconsistency and incompatible ideologies and managed to kick the can down the road. Once they run out of steam then those inconsistencies come to the surface. The left & right wings of the SNP were prepared to keep quiet as long as independence was in sight. They would fight it out after victory. Once independence was no longer in sight, scandals rocked the party, they had no interest in keeping quiet. I think yousaf had an impossible job.
It was the best thing he done actually. Green extremism has no place in government. The new bridge being only 2 lanes because of the greens is a national travesty
I think that he was badly advised by Flynn on ousting the greens. It didn’t gain the SNP anything and put them in a much weaker position than they had been with them. The hate the Greens garner just comes from a small but vocal minority whose ire will never be placated.
Sturgeon is one who threw yousaf under the bus after she jumped ship. They’re snakes, the lot of them
Aye well you resigned cause the cops were after you then lied like fuck about it so…
The Greens are and always have been the only real opposition to the SNP. The other parties are empty suits or have the mentality of 13 year olds.
The Greens have reguarly seen its manifesto committments taken forward in government. No other party has ever taken down an SNP leader.
It’s not a popular opinion in this sub, but the Greens involvement in the Scottish government has put Scotland into an absolute mess and tarnished the SNP for a large portion of the electroate. Their rush to implement policies without properly consulting industries have had disastrous outcomes.
I can’t speak for all industries but working in property, one key example is the rent cap. Which ironically has seen rents rise across the board after a large portion of proposed new home schemes were cancelled and monies moved south.
Scotland needs policies that generates income, builds infrastructure and inspires confidence. Constantly taxing then population to death is not going to turn things around.
As bad as having your husband as the CEO ?
She has a brass neck.
Anyone else read the below part of the article and wonder if Sturgeon is paving the way for a comeback?
She stood down in February 2023, fearing she had become a “polarising” figure in UK politics, a status she said stood in the way of progressing her party’s agenda.
But her hopes for a reset at the top of the Scottish Government have not come to fruition, Sturgeon told interviewers from the Institute for Government.
Speaking to the think tank in October in an interview published on Friday, the former first minister – the longest to hold the office in the 25 years since devolution – said: “I had become a polarising figure.
“I think it turns out I was wrong about this, but I convinced myself that if I took myself out somebody else would be able to reset things.
“Obviously that didn’t happen and hasn’t happened.”
Sturgeon’s decision to partner with the Greens, halted any chance of independence. There was a huge opportunity after Brexit. A move to more centre right policies, (closer to Salmond’s ideas) was the best chance of bringing enough undecided voters and anti-Brexit No voters across to the Yes camp, to regularly hit 60% plus for independence in polling, which is still the most likely route to a successful referendum. Many existing Yes voters would have been deeply unhappy with the new policies and might have left the SNP, but they would still have been Yes voters. The SNP decided keeping their core vote was more important than getting the new supporters needed to achieve independence. In the best traditions of Scottish sport, the SNP had an independence open goal and hoofed the ball over the bar.
yeah cause the caravan fiasco was a real vote winner
