  18. Wait, am I getting this wrong, because this to me seems like Canada has to do nothing and they still win.

    Like if he is tariffing imported essential raw materials from Canada, or electricity, it is not like the importers will suddenly just stop importing these essentials and find another supplier, they will still have to import it, except they are going to pay more to the government.

    Canada just keeps on selling the same stuff and US companies are the ones paying the bill.

I’m better then Trudeau please get him out. #2 is already dealt with and carney today said he’d get rid of the carbon tax on consumers and push it towards companies instead. And now he’s appealing to the Canadian patriot crowd as he’s very vocal about standing up for our country against trump. I don’t know what PP is gonna use now as ammo in this election when his main pillars he stood on aren’t gonna be useful anymore.

  44. This is all posturing. It would be very difficult for any politician to say the truth out loud right now.

    Very little we can do will hurt Trump personally, and that’s all he cares about.

    We need to accept the fact that this is going to suck for a while, and start doing the hard work of separating ourselves as much as we can from the integrated North American economy we have spent the last 37 years building since Brian Mulroney had his love-in with Ronald Reagan and we entered into the Canada – US free trade agreement.

    We need to step back from anything the ties us into American controlled supply lines. This means doing things like backing out of the F 35 agreements and sourcing arguably inferior aircraft available from other partners. We can’t be in a position where some idiot like Trump in the future can decide that they shouldn’t give us the spare parts we need, etc.

    We need to forge multiple bilateral relationships with Europe, China and other Asian countries, Mexico, and Latin America and reduce our interconnectedness and dependence on the United States.

    This project will take a decade, but we have to face reality and start now. There’s no point in pretending that we can get anything meaningful done out of a short term trade war with the United States .
