For context, I’m not German but I did grow up with channels such as Super RTL, ProSieben, etc. So while I understand the language just fine, I do have trouble speaking it.
A while ago a friend and I found some old TV recordings while cleaning the attic. They were mostly DVDs with a quite a few VHS tapes in there and I believe most of them were made from 1997 (or 1999?) to roughly June 2009. Re-watching them I remember just how good and charming the old German dubs were, more specifically the ones from the 60s-80s. The voices fit the characters very well and the performances are excellent, sometimes they even surpass the original.
How come Germany has such a great dubbing industry? Not many dubs I’ve watched come close to the level of quality and consistency that the German versions have. And this isn’t even talking about media made for adults, the kid’s stuff has a lot of quality and heart put into it as well, here in Greece the kid’s cartoons, especially the ones made before the 2010s, were/are dubbed in a very rushed manner.
