the guy has life in prison, this is barley an improvement
Good.
But an xbox 360 for £165…. He’s been mugged off.
He’s only been in there 3 minutes!
What’s good behaviour???? Bringing the sisters some condoms, ffs???
Good. He’s serving a prison sentence, not being tortured.
It’s likely that, given the nature of his crimes, it will proportionate in the aim of public safety and harmony to keep him in prison for the rest of his life. Inflicting unnecessary misery on him in the course of that does nothing to help anybody.
I’m really not in favour of all this “let the bad people suffer” shite. Two options for those who cannot be left at their liberty:
a) imprison them with proportionate restrictions, ensure their basic dignity is met and they have a decent standard of living, for life or as long as is necessary
b) imprison them as above, for as long as is thought necessary before being sure about the need for the next irreversible step, and then kill them humanely
There is no sense in the empty cruelty of causing misery. Revenge acheives nothing, punishment acheives little to nothing. Do what is necessary to keep people safe at a reasonable cost, respecting the human dignity even of those who don’t respect the dignity of others. That requires a dignified life or a dignified death, that’s it.
He’s still in jail and away from society, that is more than enough punishment for someone. He is not being released any time soon, I doubt he ever will, an Xbox has nothing on freedom.
We want prisoners to be well behaved don’t we? So rewarding them in a small way for such seems like a sensible move.
An Xbox without an internet connection is bare torture. He won’t be playing for long. Guaranteed.
The system as is is where people who do work inside earn less than minimum wage and pay for certain luxuries if they exhibit good behaviour, if they continue to do good and follow rules. A prison catalogue is no dream factory. It’s from there you pay for your own clothes and other stuff if you’re well behaved. If you aren’t you are stuck with bare minimum and treated like shit. There’s stuff in the catalogue thats allowed though given a strict looking at before it’s added. They didn’t allow ps2s until the beginning of the last decade because they were afraid that modems were optional. Ignoring the fact none could easily be connected to a phone line. As cells don’t have them. Smuggling something in to connect with that would as statistics usually tell a breach by prison officer.
He has to work to maintain that and he’ll still have a mark against his name all the same. Frankly though what bothers me more than this is that there’s less expenditure made on sorting out what produces the behaviour he exhibited. As with most inmates.
I’ve no liking of the guy, but that’s the system as it is. I get why people feel angry, but I don’t think people are aware of what if stripped utterly bare the system would be. Inevitably it’d be just a crueller place where no one learns anything but to be cruel and even those of relatively lighter sentences get served just as hard, learn harder and get released sooner.
If the experience was such a blessing now you wouldn’t have people trying to escape.
obviously giving prisoners rewards for good-behaviour is very cheap if it works.
The true value of a society can be judge how its criminals are looked after..
If they give you something……They can take it away.
Wtf. He should be breaking stones with his bare hands in a chain gang. There’s so much wrong with this country it saps my soul. There are kids for whom prison is a better option than the outside. The only reward should be training to better themselves. Bad behaviour – get in the fucking chain gang and break stones out in the rain all day.
Who payed for the Xbox, would that be the Taxpayers by any chance. If so, then it should not be allowed. He shouldn’t be allowed any pleasure’s. He’s already got it easy, being segregated from mainstream prisoners, who’d probably make his life a misery, which is what he deserves, but because he was a police officer, he gets special treatment.
I wish we still had the fucking death penalty because he doesn’t deserve to live. He shouldn’t be given anything.
Who gives a fuck
They’re in prison
The fetish over brutally punishing criminals some people have is very disturbing
I recommend they give him Dark Souls and a controller with a broken dodge button
Utterly baffled by many of the responses here.
Lock him in a box and wait for the clock to run its course. He doesn’t deserve joy.
