BILOXI, Miss. (WLOX) – New beginnings are underway for Memorial Hospital Biloxi, previously known as Merit Health Biloxi. Saturday marks the start of its new ownership under Memorial Health System.
New signage was posted on day one of the official ownership change, but that’s not the only update patients can expect.
“More premiere care presence — that means more specialties, that means more beds, that means more admissions, more ER visits,” says Memorial Hospital Biloxi Quality and Performance Improvement Director Angela Benda. “Just growth overall for the facility.”
Hospital Administrator Kristian Spear says this is a benefit to staff, and those requiring care.
“The transition will provide better access to care to the Biloxi community,” Spear says. “Memorial Hospital Biloxi will be a place that a patient can go receive the same level of care that they are receiving in Gulfport. They’re going to have access to all of our specialties because we are going to be one team. It’ll be one Memorial.”
The acquisition includes Merit Health Biloxi’s hospital operations, medical office building, clinics, and two imaging centers.
“What we’re looking at for such a small facility with limited resources, we’re looking forward to growth and capability and what we’re going to be able to do here with the resources that Memorial is bringing to the table,” Benda says.
Memorial Health System now operates hospitals in Gulfport, Biloxi and Stone County.
Both Memorial and Merit Health Biloxi say the collaboration will enhance healthcare across the Gulf Coast by creating partnerships in oncology, neurology, radiology, cardiology and other services.
