MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) -The Mississippi Science Teaching Association will host its annual Science Educator Conference in October of this year.
This event will be held from October 19th through 22nd at the MSU Riley Center in Meridian. It is hosted annually in different portions of the state, and this year, the organizers wanted to bring the fun to the Queen City.
Carl Dewitt, a Science Instructor at Northeast Mississippi Community College and president of the Mississippi Science Teaching Association likes to think of education as teaching people to be innovative and creative while encouraging teachers to learn different techniques and learning strategies to apply in their classrooms.
“I like to think of education as teaching people to be innovative and to think, and science does a good job of teaching people how to think, experience new ideas, and become problem solvers. So, if we want to raise the next generation of innovators and thinkers, science is a way to do it, and so science teachers need support. And this conference is a way for science teachers to come and collaborate with other science teachers, learn from other experts, and put on a professional development that is meaningful in the classroom and that they can bring back to their class,” Dewitt says.
