So next time when somebody will be late with their payment due to life glitch then just tell Barclays to contact other banks for help
I get it, it’s out of their control, however how out of touch is this advice? I saw these types of responses to their customers on X, all I could think is who in the right mind would think that would be a good response to customers who we’re blocked from using their own money.
Can’t wait for all my direct debits for bills to not work on Monday. It’s concerning that the issue has now lasted over 24 hours.
What I don’t understand in these situations is why they refuse to answer questions and just parrot the same lines over and over.
Telling customers “we’re doing all we can” and “our teams are working as fast as possible” doesn’t tell anyone anything.
I’m not saying they should provide in depth technical breakdowns but at least they could respond to genuine questions like genuine humans
I’ve had the same notification from them three times in the last hour and a half.
I’m sure the Barclays CEO can use food banks next time they cause a global financial crash
My wife doesn’t keep any money in the account, keeps it all in savings and moves as she needs it! Caught us big time today in Aldi, couldn’t move the money from savings to current account, and I always leave my card at home(idiot me)
Never rely on a single account for access to your money
this outage demonstrates why cash needs to stay forever
Sorry I missed my loan payment Barclays I had a phone glitch but just contact your local food bank
Quick rundown of UK banks:
Barclays: crap
Lloyds: crap
NatWest: crap
HSBC: probably crap, no experience personally
Hate them.
They told me the same and to get to fuck the other day when they decided to lower my overdraft because I wasn’t using it, somehow that required me having a new card.
They literally cancelled my old card the day they sent the new one. 5 days with no access to my account for purchases until the new one arrived. Bastards.
Which bank does the US government use? Just asking.
It’s the first of the month and we need to pay rent.
When I go into the Barclays app it gives an apology rather than let me send money.
WHEN IS THIS GONNA BE FIXED??? Nobody should be with Barclays after this!!!
This is what happens when you outsource your IT abroad and pay less for crappy coding systems
This explains why physical banks and cash must remain a vital part of the money infrastructure into the future. Too much is reliant on IT systems ad connectivity
We need to crash Barclays bank for their awful abrasive and inhumane reaction to THEIR problem. They should be compensating people for their incompetence. Heads should also role starting with the C level idiots all the way to the whole IT dept and the chain inbetween. Crush them.
Hence why we need cash permanently.
Stop the cashless society BS. Yes it more common but offer incentives for business that use cash etc.
This happened on the day their ex CEO to trial for being pally with Epstein [come on](https://www.theguardian.com/business/2025/jan/31/ex-barclays-boss-jes-staley-jeffrey-epstein-relationship) I’m not a tin foil hat person but that is a subtle way to hide a story
I always get laughed at or shit flung whenever I say on Reddit that Barclays are *the* worst of the highstreet banks. Feeling a wee bit vindicated
ITT, people who think banks have all their money in a massive vault at the back akin to Scrooge McDuck.
You do realise that banks also operate from a digital POV and any bank you walk into does not have millions upon millions laying about for people to withdraw?
Funny how all the people i know that parrot cash is king are trades who love cash in hand so to dodge paying tax but also complain about foreigners coming here and claiming benefits.
To the lad saying keep 500 quid in your wallet at all times, you ever heard of somebody being mugged? If I lose my wallet with cash and cards I’m never claiming that cash back, there are however, protections for me for illicit card usage.
Wouldn’t be surprised if there has been some sort of malicious activity and the outage lasts longer than a few days. Something really fucked must have happened because I can’t see this being a single developers mistake, usually if you deploy some broken code, you just revert it and go on with your day.
I can’t logically see why or how an outage would take this long to fix unless someone has purposefully screwed with their systems. That, or a change a developer made has corrupted a bunch of transactions accidentally and they’re fighting in a swamp to both correct millions of transactions, whilst also processing the flood of transactions people are currently trying to make.
Doesn’t look good at all.
I’ve despised this bank for probably 30 years
I owed them a pile of money so got on the phone the next day to sort a method of payment out
The so called manager just treat me with absolute contempt
Paid them back a week later and withdrew whatever I had left
The meeting with said guy went even better face to face a little down the line
I managed to transfer some funds to pay bills on Monday, phew this outage is bad but it’s kinda fucking me over.
This is a PR own goal of such hilariously out of touch proportions I want Russell Howard to come out of retirement to take the piss out of it.
People have bills going out, people haven’t been paid, IN JANUARY. This is unacceptable to such a degree that the entire Barclays board should be sacked, and never allowed to work in the industry again. People should ditch this bank.
