Buckingham Palace announced today that Princess Beatrice and Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi have welcomed their new baby, Athena Elizabeth Rose Mapelli Mozzi.

“We welcomed Baby Athena into our lives last week. She is tiny and absolutely perfect. We are all (including Wolfie and Sienna) already completely besotted with her. Our hearts are overflowing with love for you, baby Athena,” Edo wrote on Instagram.

Athena is now 11th in line to the British throne, following her older sister, Sienna Elizabeth Mapelli Mozzi.

Her first name, Athena, is of Greek origin, and a reference to the goddess of wisdom. The “A” name could also be a nod to both of Beatrice and Edo’s fathers, who have A names—Prince Andrew and Alessandro “Alex” Mapelli Mozzi, respectively. The couple named their first daughter Sienna, an “S” name, as a tribute to Beatrice’s mom, Sarah Ferguson. “They were looking for an Italian name which started with an S for Sarah, to honour the Duchess [Sarah Ferguson], and also reflected the golden rust colour of both the Duchess’s hair colour and Beatrice’s, which the new baby shares,” a friend told Hello! at the time of Sienna’s birth. It follows, then, that “A” could be for Andrew.

Like her sister Sienna, Athena also has the middle name “Elizabeth,” a tribute to Beatrice’s beloved grandmother, Queen Elizabeth. Upon the death of the Queen, Beatrice and her sister Princess Eugenie wrote in a tribute, “You were our matriarch, our guide, our loving hand on our backs leading us through this world. You taught us so much and we will cherish those lessons and memories forever.” They added, “it has been the honour of our lives to have been your granddaughters and we’re so very proud of you.”

Her second middle name, Rose, is more mysterious, as there’s no clear family tie. A name of Latin origin, it signifies the flower, which in turn signifies “love, royalty, beauty, sensuality, secrecy, and mysticism.” Rose, too, could be a reference to the Rose as a symbol of England—the Tudor Rose is the national flower of the country.
