  3. For reference, the province of B.C. buys about $2.3 billion liquor annually. That’s just one province, not all of Canada.

    And Mexico has announced retaliatory tariffs on goods and services that target Red States as well.

    MAGA is going to learn real fucking fast that cheering on a child rapist and voting for a convicted criminal wasn’t in their best interests.

I’m already feeling so genuinely sad for my fellow Americans who voted for this nutjob, who are about to get affected.

    Please don’t lose sight of the bigger picture that this is exactly what Putin wants in the long run. US to alienate all it’s long standing allies and economic partners and the eventual make NATO irrelevant. You are watching this play out in real time.

  10. I am personally fond of the specific targeting of Red States. All of the West Coast voted blue for example and have a good relationship with our northern neighbor. I know in the end it won’t matter as we’ll all pay the price but it feels good at least for the moment to not be targeted.

  21. As a progressive in a sea of blood that is a red state, I hate that I have to suffer because of the people around me. I’m so glad they’re targeting the people responsible, though, and not the country as a whole.

    That said, I can tell you with absolute certainty and a few cases of personal confirmation that the people who voted for Trump in my area think that Trump is the victim here.

  29. Just a reminder that congress could meet in the dead of the night and strip him of his tariff power, which is only supposed to be used in national emergencies, but they aren’t. This isn’t just the executive branch’s choice. All 3 arms of the government are one in this.

  33. Specifically red states because we here in BC have a VERY strong relationship with Washington, Oregon, and California. There is literally a direct ferry from my city to downtown Seattle and I got married in California. Fuck Trump.

  36. This is a common tactic of retaliatory tariffs. Directly target the districts and states of congressional leaders.

    Because ultimately they’re the only ones with the actual power to do anything about this. Plus they have to run for re-election, in some cases in the next 2 years, Trump doesn’t. So you inflict pain on them

    American has turned into a malicious stupid toddler and the only way it’s going to learn not to touch the hot stove – despite all of the adults telling it not to touch the hot stove – is to let it touch the hot stove and get seriously burned. Possibly a few times.
