>Chris Swonger, president and chief executive officer of the Distilled Spirits Council of the United States, said **he’s been pleading for Canada not to pull American booze from shelves here**. But Mr. Swonger was making the case over the phone from Belgium.
>That’s because the European Union is contemplating its own 25-per-cent tariffs on American whiskey and other imports, a delayed retaliation for the first Trump administration’s steel and aluminum tariffs on EU steel and aluminum in 2018.
>“It’s a lot,” Mr. Swonger said of the tariff discussions that are filling his calendar. Of the looming conflict with America’s northern neighbour, he added, **“I hope cooler minds prevail.”**
Chris Swonger was fawning over Trump being elected POTUS.
Edit: Hijacking my comment
We can inflict a ton of pain:

4. 40% of umbrellas and walking sticks are sold in Canada
5. 51% of plants, trees, cut flowers, etc. are sold in Canada

Fear not folks, old narrow-neck will soon enough bottle it and pop a lid on his lip.
All the countries getting hit with tariffs need to all tariff the exact same goods back.

My new year’s resolution was to quit drinking. Thanks Trump for making it easier.
Hope they do. Hope it bankrupts whatever shit company this is. Hope the worst for everyone involved.
Old article
Three provinces (states) already announced they’re taking off all american alcohol (Ontario LCBO, BC and New found land) off their shelves.
Ontario LCBO (government monopoly) is one of the largest buyers of alcohol in the world.
it’s likely all provinces will follow. So not even a tariff, they’re completely removing all american alcohol.
Boycott Gretzky Wine and Whiskey too, brothers.
As an American, I refuse to buy American alcohol
l
I hope we pull every last bottle. Unfortunately this is the only option.
Canadians will boycott American products even without government intervention.
trumps a well known tea totaler, now ban coke and massages from underage girls then he might budge.
Let me guess how all this is going to pan out:
1. Trump initiates trade war.
2. Prices for everything sky rocket.
3. Trump ends trade war.
4. Skyrocketed prices of everything become the new standard while companies get to justify inflated prices on the trade war.
5. Poor and middle class get even poorer while blame is shifted from Trump to other countries for their tariffs.
6. CEOs celebrate new growth every quarter while the working class struggles to survive.
Canada, Mexico and China need to hit all the red States, let them suffer. Yes I’ll suffer with them, but I can weather the high prices, not sure if $7 an hour Trumpers can. FAFO
Trump is leading me to drink but not American alcohol . Canada eh!
I wonder if major events sponsored by Budweiser will reconsider their deals.
Has already happened. Nova Scotia is removing ALL US alcohol from shelves. British Columbia did one better by banning alcohol from red states and removing top-selling brands from red states from shelves.
Mexico should do the same with Tequila
No one to pick the grapes for the wine and now this. Makes me glad I quit drinking. Are we great yet, America?
I’m sure people who voted for Trump is not smiling as much now that they realize their pocketbook will be hit.
You reap what you sow. Idiots. 😛
Enjoy Maga assholes.
I picked a great month to quit drinking that’s for sure
We have other options, but also: fuck it, I’d rather go dry. ^*spits*
Bye delicious Canadian beer and maple syrup 🫡😭
Canada you beautiful bastards! Keep that ban in place for 4 years if you would. Let Trump eat this one for a long time. Besides, you should be consuming alcohol that isn’t 98% chemicals-like all US food and drink.
I hope Canadian consumers just boycott all Made in USA products completely.
As an American I think I’ll be boycotting American goods when possible.
Everyone should go out and stock up on Canadian whiskey and rye before the dark times
Nova Scotia here. Gonna have ourselves and old fashioned tea party in the harbour with American liquor
I’m European. I just recently bought a bottle of Jack as a gift. I regret that purchase.
Go buy some Pike Creek. Pretty great Canadian whisky
I’m gonna ask a stupid question but knowing the tendencies of fascists I have to ask. What is the chance that Trump instigates a war with Canada in the hopes of territorial expansion and access to natural resources. It’s an insane question but fascists throughout history have needed enemies and expansionism has done that.
Trash the place (to justify reform) , blame Obama (divert responsibility & accountability) , declare state of emergency (extend powers, deploy military control) , offer solution (total control aka dictatorship).
This is a coup. Rise up. This is what A2 was written for.
Not a drop should be on shelves. Just so that nobody gets confused. We have excellent selection.
He did it.
Life is going to get so much more expensive under Trump, yet his people will blame Biden some how. This is bad. They are going to make people lose their homes so the corporate giants can gain more rental properties.
I live in Australia and I’m going to boycott any obvious American products just because it’s the only thing I can do that makes a difference to Trump
