Ya won’t see the Taoiseach ushering his own son Micheal Aodh Martin of into the army nor any of those media gowls like Daniel McConnell who said we should “grow up” and consider the military, their precious children won’t see the battle, it’s you the regular people who will be put on the battlefield.
We do a more effective role at peacekeeping by being neutral and what defence has an island of our size, we would need hundreds of millions of investment. We stayed out of WW2 and we’ll stay out of these.
That’s my opinion and the last time we debated changing our constitution, there was no appetite for it. Stay away from our children ye absolute mongrels FFG.
The shortest debate in history I’d imagine. It ain’t going anywhere and there’s no good reason to change
I would just like the gov explain what our current neutrality actually means considering we operate as a satellite stop for the US military flying to and from the Middle East and we have a defence pact with the UK.
It seems very clear are neutrality is one of convenience and not of substance because we are scabbing military defense from others who are extremely not neutral and if you take a second to think about it our neutralities legitimacy is paper thin.
Which is fine. Nothing against it. We are a Western European country and our interests are in line with other Western European countries. But we should just admit it.
They want other countries to protect us so they dont have to build up the army😆
Hello Shannon airport my ould friend, we’ll come and talk about you again.
Why exactly is this being brought up now too?..
Dopes want to go to war with Russia because it’s the cause du jour and suddenly Mehole wants a debate about it?..Seems astroturfed tbh..
My biggest issue with cunts like that fucking about with our neutrality is that they won’t be the ones sent into battle if it ever hits the fan. Hits particularly close to home as a 25yo man.
I actually do count myself incredibly lucky for us to be neutral. It’d be a travesty to give it up.
A debate…….will the people be asked or will it be shoved down our throats
We’re not neutral and we never really have been. We’re “non-aligned” as the experts prefer to call it.
We have obvious preferences in terms of our military, economic and political partners and we benefit from being protected by our relationships with the UK and and US, but we don’t sign on to any hard-line military organisations or treaties that could compel us to act in a conflict.
Neutrality is a convenient smokescreen to hide behind for a variety of reasons, including that it justifies spending absolutely fuck all on our Defence Forces, and it lends credence to our image as a non-colonial and inoffensive western nation which can be useful in certain circumstances internationally.

I’ll save you all some time.
