Everton have signed Maren Mjelde from Norwegian club Arna-Bjørnar. It is Everton’s sixth signing of the January transfer window.
The 35-year-old Norway captain returns to the Women’s Super League after leaving Chelsea in May 2024. During her seven years in London, Mjelde won six WSL titles and lifted the FA Cup four times.
Mjelde is eager for the new challenge under Everton head coach Brian Sorensen.
“I am always hungry for more, I love playing football and am happy to continue my journey here at Everton,” she told evertontv.
“Hopefully I can contribute. If it is with goals or just the player I am, I want to do the best for the team to make Everton better and progress – that is why I am here.”
Mjelde joins a growing list of new arrivals at Everton, including Kelly Gago, Martina Fernandez, Emma Watson, Hayley Ladd, and Louna Ribadeira.
After spending the start of the season at her first professional club, Arna-Bjørnar, Mjelde is excited to return to England.
“It is the best league in the world, it is so competitive and is getting better and better. I am really excited to be back in this league and to get going. I am ready,” she said.
Everton boss Sorensen praised Mjelde’s leadership and experience.
“Maren is a player who demands respect. She is a leader on and off the field and possesses invaluable experience,” he said.
“She knows the Women’s Super League well and what it takes to win games in this division. She is a role model who will help the younger players in our squad. We are delighted to have her on board.”
