  2. Perfect if true. Hit the American farmers where it hurts, make them need another bailout like on trump’s first term. Besides, American products aren’t good anyways, they taste more like plastic and chemicals than anything else. To stop buying them is a net positive for other countries health.

    Trump’s completely unnecessary and dangerous trade war will hurt everyone (except the very wealthiest) in all countries involved, but I must say I do agree with Mexico’s strategy in choosing what products to target with retaliatory tariffs.

  5. Mexico needs to up it a notch.

    1. Immediately stop holding immigrants or whatever intentions pissed about.
    2. Do not tariff products. Just ban them altogether. Noisy ones like corn and soybeans. Tariffs only hurt your people.

    With the migrant workers disappearing there might not be crops to pick and/or the price of produce might increase while the quantity also decreases. Will have less people to feed with people being moved out. Will create a vacuum.

  13. A much more direct way to hit ’em where it hurts is to increase prices (call it export tariffs) of things that Americans want from Mexico. Americans will pay import tariffs *and* export tariffs.

  14. The answer to be given to Trump has to be very clear and must reach the states that voted for that orange head. Whatever countries can do that affects these states must be done.

  19. This really sucks but also as an American who voted against Trump I hope Mexico and Canada tag team on our stupid ass country to bring as much suffering as possible. I don’t expect his cult to turn on him but there were plenty of voters who stayed home and caused him to win. People need to realize voting matters. It’s the most important power we have. I have family members who just don’t care but complain all day about the prices of things. Sucks this will impact Canadians and Mexicans too of course but the US needs a slap in the face to wake up to this facist prick

  23. American here, sell all your potash to the EU and Africa this year. Trump voters tend to be poorer and more rural (ie. Farmers and agricultural) and this will 100% screw them way more than the bluer cities.

    Bluer cities are going to be hurt no matter what. Trump was voted in to cause pain.

  36. I think Mexico should do what they used to do in these tiffs. Inspect every cargo heading to the border for contraband. Make every trailer unload, open every box. For rail cars unload every rail car, inspect every vehicle, check serial numbers. Drain tank cars then refill. A couple of weeks of delays should bring American manufacturers to stop assembly lines. Layoffs and furloughs, maybe throw in a labor strike in Mexico or two.

  38. If this all comes to pass, I do think Mexicans and Canadians would be more willing to endure economic pain than Americans.

    This is because (a) they seem super united against Trump in their respective countries and (b) they recognize that they are essentially being attacked.

    Americans, by contrast, are at best indifferent about this (because we don’t understand tariffs) and, like Canadians and Mexicans, many of us recognize that Trump is the aggressor here.

    Americans will revolt first.
