  1. One of the first Irish songs I learned as a foreigner, along with rare old times which turns out he also wrote. I still think it’s beautiful and haunting when it’s not screamed at me by a horde of drunken football fans.

  2. A traditional song that instantly entered the canon as a classic. Like it had been sung for hundreds of years. Very rare, very special. RIP.

  3. Sad news. My grandad, rest his soul, who only left Ireland once in his life, said Fields of Athenry is “the best song going”. Always been one of my faves. My dad’s is Spancill Hill.
