>The E.U. hopes that by laying down strict rules relatively early in the technology’s development it will address potential dangers in time and help shape the international agenda for regulating AI.
> The act **bans** the use of AI programmes that **exploit human vulnerabilities, such as the use of subliminal techniques** and **social scoring** for public and private purposes, **as used in China** to reward or punish individuals for their behaviour.
Emphases mine.
The EU parliament are becoming an increasingly unusual collective of people making equally unusual choices.
Their approach in the last few years, for nearly every industry, has been regulation not creation.
The sole focus seems to be sitting in a room, seeing what’s around and deciding how they want to control it. Not one ounce of forward thinking or creationism.
What AI models come from any European country of any worth? None.
We’re* backing ourselves into so many corners I’m increasingly confident the EU system will collapse in 20 or so years time.
No energy plans, no space plans (telecoms, defence), no cohesive strategy on eu wide immigration issues, no battery storage plans (except northvolt which they’ve let the wolves feed from) and now no computer intelligence plans.
I’m constantly baffled by what the hell these people do other than just turn everything to sludge.
*they, those elected farmers and teachers and whatever with barely any education in the fields they’re now firmly controlling
