ORF has confirmed that the Austrian entry for Eurovision 2025 “Wasted Love” will be released in early March.

“Wasted Love” by JJ will be released in early March, the Austrian broadcaster ORF has stated. Speaking after JJ’s announcement as the Austrian representative earlier this week, ORF program director Stefanie Groiss-Horowitz said:

JJ is an exceptional talent! With him, we are sending a distinctive artist to Basel who will bring his own magic to the Song Contest stage with rousing pop and classical singing.

It was previously reported that seven songs were in the running to represent including two songs from Philip Piller and Dominic “Dodo” Muhrer who previously represented Austria on home soil for 2015 as part of The Makemakes.

The song was selected from the first songwriting camp held in Austria with the intention of creating songs for the Eurovision Song Contest. Three juries selected the Austrian representative, a 30 member national and international jury of music experts, a 30 member jury of Eurovision fans from 5 OGAE clubs, and the ORF Eurovision editorial team.

This will be Austria’s 58th appearance at the Eurovision Song Contest. Kaleen represented Austria at the Eurovision Song Contest 2024 with “We Will Rave”. She finished in 24th place, gaining 24 points.

Austria debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1957. Bob Martin represented the country on their debut but finished in the last place scoring just 3 points. Austria has won the contest twice, the first being in 1966 when Udo Jürgens performed “Merci, Cherie”. It was 48 years later when Austria won again when Conchita Wurst performed “Rise Like a Phoenix”, scoring a total of 290 points.
