  7. Ford was saying he would do this weeks ago (example [here](https://www.wcvb.com/article/ontario-premier-us-booze-tariffs/63485928)). The Liquor Control Board of Ontario (LBCO) makes massive purchases of wine, spirits, etc. — it buys billions of dollars of product on behalf of the entire province (population 16 million). Quebec and BC have similar control boards. Let’s see if they do something similar.

  9. For non-Canadians who may not know, the LCBO is one of the biggest buyers of alcohol in the world. It represents one province.

  12. People underestimate how big this is.

    Alcohol is VERY sticky. When people start buying a brand and they adjust, they keep buying that brand until they die.

    This is why so much money is spent targeting college students with advertising etc. Because if you get a customer you often get a lifetime customer. This action enforces a switched choice where Canadian producers will fill the niches for any American products for preference in flavor etc. Massive opportunity for micro brews here now.

    Edit: I got some messages about what else we can do. Every Canadian should cancel streaming services and look into Plex and qbittorrent. Team up with your community and you’ll have your own service for free in no time!

  21. For those that don’t realize how big this is, all alcohol in the province needs to be purchased through the LCBO. That’s not just individual purchases…but restaurants, venues, events, etc.

    Think of all the money spent on Napa wines at restaurants, or Budweiser’s at sports events, that will now be spent on non-American products.

  27. One of the sliver linings here is that we are seeing, in real time, Canadian Conservatives falling out of love with MAGA and their movement towards MAGA-like policies and rhetoric.

    There’s a lot more distance to cover, but the restoration of something like sanity to Canadian conservatism would be an excellent outcome.

China is the second biggest market for those POS vehicles. As the WSJ headline states: “Dumbest Trade War Ever”.
