  1. These people are going to have a rude awakening when the balance display issues finally resolve and they’re well into overdraft.

  2. Not this again. Thick fucks not understanding that they will have to pay it back.

  3. One way to be flagged for fraud and never get access to anything beyond the legal minimum bank account again.

  4. So that’s why there was a queue of 50 people at the cash machine last night

  5. Nowhere in the article does anyone claim its “free money”

Its people queuing to get cash as theycant pay on card. Simple as that

  6. Always good when this happens. Highlights the importance of always having a little bit of your money in cash for circumstances like this.

Hopefully.a few of the “PeoPLe NeEd tO GeT WiTH tHE TiMes” brigade were left unable to top up their electric or had to go without their takeaway last night.

  7. Folks, if this ever happens to you, just take a look at what the majority will think of you. Fools. Absolute fools.

The newly discovered £300 **overdraft** you have will simply vanish when you pay it back – then you’ll be on your arse till pay day. You won’t be able to *use* said overdraft again because you **DON’T HAVE IT**.

  8. Damn, I only just heard about this, these idiots honestly think the system isn’t tracking their when they take out money, It wouldn’t work otherwise.

  9. Wonder how many people read the $1.6m Australian ATM glitch story and are trying to mimic it lmfao

  10. **”Angry crowds gathered outside a Barclays branch”**

Aye. They look fucking furious, all in a row like that waiting.

  11. Going to guess the “free money” hack was pushed mainly on TikTok and Twitter

  12. At best they’re going to owe the bank money, who doesn’t love being in debt.

Not sure if knowingly exploiting this would fall under fraud?

If so potentially legal reprocussions/poor credit and mark against your name when you go to apply for a loan?

  13. Why do people never learn that it’s not free money? Imbeciles.

  14. Are people really too stupid to realise it isn’t the bean counting part of the system that’s down?

Genius move on Barclays’ part to knock out their own system updates and wait for the interest to roll in.

  15. Idiots.

I remember when I worked in a bank and some lad came in to pay £40 into his account. The cashier at the time keyed it as £400, so he immediately went outside and withdrew the extra money.

He obviously doesn’t realise that bank cashier cash up their tills at night like anyone else dealing with cash does – the mistake was identified and corrected, and his account went -£360, which then incurred fines.

Do people not realise this isn’t “free money”?

  16. Saw a reposted screenshot on a Snapchat story yesterday of someone who had exploited this and had received a text from Barclays stating they now owe £4k, absolute sausage lol.

  17. There’s no such thing as free money. This ATM will store logs of every transaction made on its portal regardless of whether the uplink was operating. Even if no data is reaching the banks, I 100% guarantee that EVERY action taken on that machine is recorded. That means it only needs someone to retrieve the logs and pooof, there goes your free money.

Calling this a stupid scam would be an insult to stupid people, it’s THAT stupid. Using your own card to retrieve free money tokens that will very quickly expire and leave you with a horrible overdraft.

  18. I had £0 in my Barclays account with no agreed overdraft. When I heard there was a problem with Barclays on the news I chanced it and ordered some much needed groceries, and it went through!

And true to my assumption today I am – £20 in overdraft.
