Migration is now an issue that actually brings Europeans together, says Parliament President Metsola. To keep internal borders open, Europe will strengthen the external border. The migration pact was a first step

  1. SS: The European Union has been intensifying its crackdown on migration through much stricter border controls, tougher migration policies as well as increased cooperation with third countries to return migrants. On the hard side, it has been been reinforcing its external borders with fences, walls, surveillance technology and expanded powers as well as more personnel for the EU’s border guard agency.

The EU is also striking deals with countries like Tunisia and Libya to prevent departures towards Europe. Much has changed in a decade. In an irony of fate, the migration question is now making European states integrate their efforts – thus contributing to the ever-closer Union.

  2. I presume this will lead to higher wages for EU workers because of the shrunken labor pool.

  3. Just as with so many European Union issues, 10 years too late. Why did they have to wait so long after massive immigration had fractured their countries and given power to the far right to take these measures? The lack of foresight by such a large and important group is really astonishing.

  4. Illegal migration really isn’t a hard issue to solve. It’s just the leaders don’t want to solve it. They have got off side with the rest of the population on this issue.
Govts just need to not give services to illegals, enforce laws on the non hiring of illegals.
“Refugee” definition have become far too generously broad. People are economic refugees or will say they are gay and lgbtqi rights arent as progressive. Even refugees from war torn countries will travel through multiple countries to get a country they like.
These are all easy incentives to change if a govt and society wants too.

  5. I still remember the time in 2015 when Merkel delivered her “we can do this” message.

I knew it back then this was going to be a disaster. The Brexit campaigners like Farage were already using it in campaigns before the refugee waves started arriving.

  6. Im sorry but in 2016 i was bombarded through all corners of the media that this new engineers and doctors are:
    1. Improving the economy
    2. A reliable workforce
    3. Will be assimilated and there will be a very great cultural exchange
    4. Thinking that rampant migration of people from a very different culture than yours is dangerous is very racist
    5. Crimes definitely NOT HAPPENING and everything is overblown by the media

Was it all a lie? What’s a matter?
