  3. So what? For sure we have more to share with the US than with Russia. And the bond between western Europe and the USA is deeper and does not stop at individuals. Tail-wagging for 4 years is fine by me, there’s pride in playing the long game. Something a self-centered autocrat cannot understand.

  4. He’s trying to shame the Europeans (who in reality are probably more anti Russian than the US) into violating their best interests by implying that pursuing said interests would mean they’re just Trump’s lackeys if Trump actually does something that’s unfavorable to Russia.

    I find this interesting. Trump is giving Putin a harder time than he (and most anybody, really) expected, and this may indicate he has lost confidence in the outcome of negotiations and the wider war.
