In a way, it’s more insulting that he’s implied we’re going to get favourable treatment in comparison to other countries/blocs. He’s basically saying he knows we’ll roll over and let him tickle our tummies.
Please, no. I don’t want their shitty chlorine chicken.
If UK can do a deal with USA to get cheaper oil this could be a great boon for UK growth.
UK imported 13,461 in 1000 metric TONs imported from USA in 2023.
He’s such a bully, and the only way to get back at bullies is to stand up to them.
I really don’t want to deal with any country which elected a conman and rapist as their leader.
How about we demonstrate some principles and tell him to fuck off
I’ve never seen so many people take a good news headline and try to convince themselves that not only is it bad news, but we should promptly cut off our nose to spite our face.
Britain stands with its brothers and sisters in Canada and its cousins in the EU, fuck the US
The annoying thing about people like Trump is that they think they’re clever because they play by different rules.
But the problem is, it only gives them a very short term advantage, because the moment others see them “cheating” everyone else starts cheating too.
Hence why the rules of engagement existed to begin with.
And that’s why politics is in such a state across the world – because everyone has had to embrace utter madness in order to compete with the maniacs who have thrown out the rulebook.
And now we’re going to be doing it with the economy! Great…
So, trying to make sure we don’t even consider a reversal of brexit?
If hes adding tariffs to imports to virtually every country they trade with, isnt this just going to increase the cost of stuff for Americans?
You’ve got to stop taking what Trump says literally and try to remember that everything he says is about projecting an image to his audience.
For example, with the EU, in October the EU stated it would continue to buy more US oil and gas as a way to avoid buying from Russia. So, in December Trump announced that he would force the EU to buy more US oil and gas or hit them with tariffs. He knew that they were doing it anyway, they knew that too. He just wanted to be able to tell his audience that he was making great deals for the US.
Whatever the outcome of this ‘deal’, I suspect it will be something that UK is more than happy to agree to because it’s probably something that we wanted to do anyway.
“Deal” can be worked out. Just stop sending Ukraine money, let Musk plug his data skimming hard drives into the Treasury, replace Starmer with the trout-faced Reform man, and knock down Scotland all the way down to the Lake District to put in a couple hundred golf holes. Just some easy basic things to maybe allow some cheap exports of beef flavoured hormone-filled mystery meat.
Trump about to make the whole of the UK vegetarian (or at least not eat chicken…)
Meet our quality standards and gain access to our glorious market.
No lowering of standards to accept cheap, shoddy, foreign goods.
That applies to China and Europe and the rest of them too in my opinion.
Ah yes, what a roundabout way of demanding the UK bends a knee.
