The nomination for the school, which came from the parent of a pupil, said: “St Chad’s CE Primary School in Winsford school offers a wonderful nature environment for children.
“All children have weekly outdoor learning classes, learn to plant trees and vegetables, and so much more.
“I believe the school creates many wonderful learning experiences for children, where they can enjoy outdoor learning and learn about protecting nature.
“Students often have classes outdoors, and while they are having for example a bonfire they learn things from history.
“Children also are engaged in planting trees and vegetables and learn about protecting the nature.
“Recently students were also involved in Chester Zoo workshops about palm oil, in which for a week they were interactively involved in learning about endangered species and how to be a smart, environmentally friendly shopper.”
WATCH THE WINNERS RECEIVE THEIR AWARDS:
In 2024, one of the school’s year five pupils ran a clean air campaign with five other schools and a church in the area, raising awareness about idling engines outside school during drop off and pick up.
The artwork that was created at the event raised more than £350 for The Rainforest Alliance to plant trees through Students Rebuild.
Catherine Speed, headteacher at St Chad’s, said: “We are thrilled to win the Great and Green Award.
“Our children love learning in the outdoors and are very proud of the positive impact they have on the environment.
“They think deeply about conservation issues and are keen to make a difference in the world.”
