RTL Today – Drugs seized: French and Luxembourg police conduct joint rail patrols

  • 2025-02-03

Authorities carried out cross-border train inspections, seizing drugs and reinforcing security measures.

On Monday, Luxembourg’s Grand Ducal Police and France’s Thionville Departmental Gendarmerie conducted joint patrols on cross-border rail services to enhance security and deter crime.

During the operation, which involved four Luxembourg officers and six French officers, four trains and around 100 passengers were checked. Approximately 300g of hashish were discovered on one individual, leading to its confiscation and the issuance of an official report.

These coordinated patrols stem from an administrative agreement signed in January 2024 between Luxembourg’s Minister of Internal Affairs and France’s Minister of the Interior. The agreement permits joint security operations on all cross-border railway lines, including high-speed routes and their stations.

The initiative aims to reinforce preventive measures, ensure a visible police presence aboard trains, and strengthen efforts against cross-border crime.
