Catherine, Princess of Wales, posted a photo of herself taken by her son Louis as she gets set to recognize World Cancer Day following her own experience with the disease.
“Don’t forget to nurture all that which lies beyond the disease. C,” she captioned the photo of herself in the woods wearing a long coat and hat with her arms spread out to her side. She used the hash tag #WorldCancerDay, which is Feb. 4, and gave the photo credit to Prince Louis, 6, one of three kids she shares with husband Prince William, along with George, 11, and Charlotte, 9.
The princess’ post comes after she announced last month that her cancer is in remission, less than one year after she revealed that she had been diagnosed with cancer after tests following a planned abdominal surgery found that cancer had been present. She has not provided any information about what kind of cancer she had.
“It is a relief to now be in remission and I remain focused on recovery,” she wrote on Instagram on Jan. 14. “As anyone who has experienced a cancer diagnosis will know, it takes time to adjust to a new normal.
“My heartfelt thanks goes to all those who have quietly walked alongside William and me as we have navigated everything. We couldn’t have asked for more. The care and advice we have received throughout my time as a patient has been exceptional.”
In December, she told singer Paloma Faith at the princess’ annual carol service that “this year has been full of surprises.”
“But I know I’m not alone. So many people have faced their own challenges this year,” she added.
In September, the princess returned to work after announcing she finished chemotherapy.
“The last nine months have been incredibly tough for us as a family,” she wrote on Instagram. “Life as you know it can change in an instant and we have had to find a way to navigate the stormy waters and road unknown. The cancer journey is complex, scary and unpredictable for everyone, especially those closest to you.”
“Doing what I can to stay cancer free is now my focus,” she added. “Although I have finished chemotherapy, my path to healing and full recovery is long and I must continue to take each day as it comes.”
