  1. My kid liked it but this was one of the most tragically boring and uninteresting kids movies I’ve seen the past few years and there have been some real stinkers.

  2. Me and my whole family were delighted. This series is super popular with young kids right now, and the movie is very faithful to the comics with a lot of shot-for-shot recreations. It’s very silly but also earnest at times with a great message. I wasn’t sure about Pete Davidson for Petey the Cat but he did great!

Hoping they make more Dog Man content.

  3. Was talking to a neighbor at the bus stop about it. Didn’t realize it was a comic style book. Went through a couple pages and looks very easy to follow unlike the bubbles of comic books back in my day.

  4. It was OK… you have to remember the books are great because they’re like anti books… it’s a comic book with very simple language… my youngest is actually learning to love to read with it.. I don’t think it translates well to screen because it’s not like dog man talks … beginning was good… I fell asleep for a bit in the middle but the end was good.. overall it was supa fun and better than a lot of the adult movies that get pushed out there… go watch it during matinee

  5. People have to give captain underpants another shot.

  6. Our kids have all the books. It was the only series one of our’s would read. He loved them. Even dressed up as Dogman for Halloween. I am glad this is doing well.

  7. My boys loved it. My oldest is super into the books so he was very excited to see it. People need to remember that this is a movie for kids, especially the ones that have been reading the books. Not the adults

  8. This movie looks so goofy, but I’ll give it a chance when it hits streaming.

  9. there have been like four Dogman films in the last five years, all grimy as hell, and was not expecting a cartoon this time

  10. Dog Man is one of those hits I don’t get because it happened after I hit puberty already, like Minecraft or Diary of a Wimpy Kid.

I keep on seeing it (and Diary of A Wimpy Kid) in my library’s “Last month’s most popular books with children” list month after month. I don’t *get* it, but it’s not meant to appeal to me. If the kids like it, so be it.

It’s apparently a good adaptation of the comic. Faithful, well-animated. It’s a kid’s film instead of a family film.

  11. I love the books, my children and I have been reading them for years! I’m looking forward to the movie

  12. $40m budget for this still feels way too high. Plus P&A (advertising) on top of this, E&O Insurance, Theatrical Roll out expenses (box office splits with theatre chains) and with subsidies. The film budgets just don’t add up like they used to

  13. It put me to sleep, but I’m not target in the least

  14. I just took my g’son and he enjoyed it. I fell asleep mid way for a few minutes. It wasn’t as funny as I hoped.

  15. Did they at least get Dolph Lundgren to do the voice?

  16. I will not be seeing it because I think Pete Davidson sucks as a person

  17. This is so weird to me, the only reason that I know of this movie is because I searched ‘Companion’, and I found out that this movie made more money.

  18. Went and saw it this Saturday. My 8 year old loves reading Dog Man, so he was very exciting.

It’s a bit helter skelter, but it’s just under 90 minutes and kept the 8 year old entertained, so it accomplished its goal.

It’s also another recent example where the animation studios have learned you can animate a bit more cheaply if you stylize it. Seemed like animated features from 1994 through 2017 were mostly all just CGI animation trying to make it look as good as possible with the budget they had, so every film looks exactly the same, just better or worse graphics based on budget and year. Now with Spider-verse, Puss in Boots 2, Dog Man, Mitchell’s vs the Machines, Turning Red, TMNT: Mutant Mayhem, and many more, we’re seeing varying styles in (US based studios) animated features again.

  19. The books were great, loved reading them with my son, the director comes on the screen and said his goal was translating the books to the screen as exactly as possible so I was hyped, movie was a mash up of random scenes from the books that were changed and did not have the vibe or feel or pacing of the books.

Left the theater and my son said that was his new favorite movie and he hopes they make more ❤️

  20. Took my two kids on Friday. They loved it. I’ve read the books with my son and the movie did a great job at capturing the comic book style.

The first half was tragically boring for me, but I’m not the target audience. Second half picks up quickly and the ending was solid.

Best line (adults will get this): “Flippy Kai Yay, flippy flipper!”

  21. Profit detected: 1847247363 sequels and 946174728 shows now in production.

  22. Never seen my 4th grader so aware of dates.

    Makes me question everything lol.
