  1. The US will be left out of all global trade thanks to Trump…

  2. I don’t even know why he’s bothering to talk with us today. The damage is done. Lay in the bed you made, and we’ll lay in ours

  3. Every country he has put a Tarriff on is proactively searching for other trade partners. This will alienate the US and make things more expensive and harder to get.

No country is self reliant and has everything it needs, even the USA.

  4. fair enough as an European ill be smashing the old piggy jar and buying some aluminium products today.

  5. Even if they somehow avoid the tariffs at the 11th hour, the long term damage is done. Our biggest trading partners can no longer trust us and must weaken our ties to protect themselves.

  6. Even if it’s “just” blustering from the white house, no one likes dealing with flakes.

  7. Great news, can we please also have some of your gas?

  8. As crazy of an idea as it was for Canada to join the European Union, the crazier Trump becomes, the saner it sounds.

  9. If we can sell all our aluminum to the EU, then we should just stop supplying the us. They can buy the low grade Chinese stuff.

  10. from the article:

“According to the Commerce Department, Canada accounted for 3.08 million tons or 56% of aluminium product imports to the United States for domestic consumption in 2023, the latest full year data available.”

They will feel this one, glad Canada is punching back to the bully.

  11. Europe will welcome Canada to increase trading with us

  12. Close our border to the US. I mean hermetically. Nothing in or out except individual travellers.

  13. The US being such a great wing man right now to Canada. We are about to get new friends all over the world!

  14. Good. Trade with everyone except the US. They clearly want to stand on their own; we can force them back into isolation.

  15. EU banned russian aluminium in latest sanction pack, this will easily replace Putins Disneyland.

  16. As an American that showed up and voted against fascism I appreciate what the world is doing to stand up to this bully. I get it, this is going to suck bad and hurt us, but when almost half the people voted for it, well it is what is.
Keep standing up against this bully. Thank you!!

  17. Keep it up Canada! Love ya! I didn’t vote for this shit, doing everything I can to protest this stupidity. -American

  18. I hope we join forces with all the countries affected by this insanity. Let’s diversify and find new stable partners!

  19. It’s fine, the USA uses Aluminum so they don’t need Aluminium.

  20. As long as it’s that good stuff aluminium and not that knock off aluminum.

  21. Thanks for driving the Canadians to our market, Amerinerds!😎

But for real, please be nice to your neighbours again. We like you guys and want you to prosper together. You used to be so cool and friendly in the past.

  22. I’ve got bags on bags of cans waiting for this moment

  23. If the Brits want our Aluminium they can have our Aluminum.

  24. Hello friends in the EU!

Looking forward to making stronger relations with you guys

  25. Say goodbye to critical potash fertilizer as well. The only other legit supplies are in Russia and Belarus. What a coincidence!

  26. Ideally we could send our oil and natural gas to Europe as well. Then Europe could rely less on Russian oil. I don’t know the logistical hurdles involved with that though.

  27. I can’t wait for these dumb Americans to come up with excuses about how the world is treating them badly. You elected a fucking fascist and his nazi friend, you absolute morons

  28. Honestly, I’m just glad that everyone in the world is talking about Canada. We’re literally being talked about on every news outlet in the world. I can’t remember the last time Canada was so popular. 😆

    Go Canada! 🇨🇦

  29. Quebec trade minister said this morning on the radio that we export 90% of our production as the main supplier to the states, but only 1/3 is transformed aluminum and under contract obligation. It also happens to be specifically certified for the US market, very difficult to replace and contractually protected by tariffs.

The other 2/3 of the production is not transformed nor contractually tied to the US and in very high demand worldwide.

He said the dealings are done are currently working on logistics as it would take a few weeks to organize maritime transport overseas

Keep in mind the other main aluminum producers are China, India and Russia…. I’m sure those will be great deals. The best of deals

  30. My only hope is that Canada sticks with this even if Trump drops the tariffs.

  31. The crazy thing about this is that the White House is handing tariffs* like candies. Instead of using it as a threat and to provide a milestone plan on how to end it.

  32. Canada doesn’t need the USA. Let’s hope the tariffs continue after 3pm today.

  33. Our major aluminum producers like AlCan make it cheap on our eastern coast with cheap hydro power so shipping it to Europe would be really easy too.

  34. No matter what happens today Canada should continue its retaliation until Trump negotiates a new trade agreement.

  35. Even if Trump rescinds the tariffs quickly, Canada should never trust the US again. The VP is just as vile and the rot extends to the core here n the USA.

  36. I hope we ally ourselves with Australia and mutually agree not to sell Uranium to the US too. They can buy it from Russia instead.

  37. Europe still buying aluminum from Russia I think, this would be a perfect replacement from a friendly country

  38. I have a client that sells steel, manganese and ballistic armor. All sales to the US have been halted.

  39. Welcome to sell us your products Canada. Looking forward to long and fruitful trade and cooperation!

    Europe

  40. This is the thing, even if the US backs out of the tariffs, id be shocked to see all of our allies and trading partners start to diversify and become more independent if possible

I understand global trade is a lot more complicated than anyone here is willing to admit, but why would Canada and Mexico not try to establish stronger relationships with alternative countries? The EU, China, Africa, and LatAm would also have it in their best interests it seems

  41. Trump doesn’t think this is an issue because the US need Aluminum not Aluminium. Checkmate Canada!
