Submissions by the applicants will be published on the website of the Judicial Council and the Latvijas Vestnesis official portal after the trio received positive vetting from the Constitutional Protection Bureau.
The Judicial Council plans to hear from candidates for the position of Prosecutor General at a meeting on April 25, 2025.
The candidate who receives a majority of votes of the members of the Judicial Council will be nominated to the Saeima for appointment to the position of Prosecutor General. Applications for the position of Prosecutor General closed on January 31, 2025.
The term of office of the current Prosecutor General, Juris Stukāns, will expire on July 11.
The Prosecutor General manages and supervises activities of the Prosecutor’s Office, determines its internal structure and staff in accordance with the allocated state budget funds, approves normative acts adopted by the Council of the Prosecutor General and directly manages the work of prosecutors of the Prosecutor General’s Office, as well as performs other duties prescribed by law.
