Luc Frieden on Monday expressed support for the French idea that the EU should increasingly seek out European products when procuring military equipment as he reiterated his belief that Europe needs to become more self-reliant.

Arriving in Brussels for an informal EU summit, Luxembourg’s prime minister commented on global politics. “We are facing a different geopolitical situation than ten years ago,” Frieden said. “We have Ukraine, incidents in the Baltic Sea, and the USA could go in a different direction than before. On top of that, China has enormous military ambitions,” he said.
