The harp used on the flag of the kingdom of Ireland resembles the current President of Ireland flag. The soundboard is on the right in both cases.
Guinness’s trademark harp, which is newer than the flag of the kingdom of Ireland, has the soundboard on the left. So the government did not choose to reverse it; Guinness trademarked a different harp.
Always a bit of fun trivia when you see the storehouse
also guinness tried to stop the Irish government from happening
It’s a bit like the Euro symbol € having two dashes instead of one as Epiphone trademarked it first.
Maybe Reddit Ireland could use a harp, rather than a horse’s head as its logo – would look a lot better !
Guinness, a disgraceful company.
We’re the only country to have a musical instrument as the symbol of our state AFAIK…
It’s amazing how synonymous Guinness is with Irish culture yet how much they’ve stood against it over the years.
