It feels like nearly every time there is a bad headline about Labour, Lord Alli always finds a way to be involved.
So uh… Donor makes Labour drop plans to ban donors…
Surprise, surprise!
Easier to complain about something from the sideline for 14 years isn’t it
Labour are finding that its so easy to criticize then it is actually doing the job and they are doing it poorly.
Labour must be the thickest gang of twats going or deliberately trying to lose the next election. How can you make so many obvious howlers, this is such basic stuff to think about and yet they keep standing on rake after rake.
Does this mean that Elon Muskrat will be able to bankroll reform still?
2029 is going to be an absolute bloodbath, that’s if they make it there.
Never seen a political party fumble so hard, it’s almost like they are not even trying!
OK, I tried giving this guy a chance because u thought the hate from sad Corbynites was a little overboard. But even as a centre-left guy, I can’t get behind him. Il vote Labour not no matter what, come next election. But if he wants to get people excited and turn out the base he will need something better than constant appeals to Reform voters who won’t be happy with him no matter how many immigrants Labour ship back home. Its like Labour saw every mistake the US Democrat party made in the fight against neo-facism and are going out of their way to top the failure. The online media atmosphere constantly favours the extremists, and I don’t think Starmer has it in him to break through that noise.
“is said to have intervened”
Said by who?
‘according to a new book about Labour’s rise to power ‘
Who’s that book written by? Oh it’s written by the authors of this article.
What evidence do they have in the article? None at all. Is there any rationale why the British Lord Alli would want it dropped? Nope.
Great story.
So the story is that the guy in charge of fundraising said that shouldn’t do something that would reduce fundraising?
Labour remains committed to get Reform in power next election
I actually think it’s quite difficult to define or agree on who should be able to donate and how much and to do so without huge loop holes. People think they agree, but then you get into actual specific cases.
The owner of my company is a UK citizen but he’s not resident here for tax purposes, can he donate? What about his wife who does live here? What if the money comes from the joint account? Can companies? Because if so anyone can set up an ltd and rent an address? So no companies? Ditto charities and similar orgs for the same reason right? But that means no unions. And if none of these existing sources are permitted, then no one is paying and parties just stop existing?
And what counts as a donation? If I give someone cash yeah? What if I let them use my office space for a reduced rate? Is an op ed by Starmer in a paper I own his right to express himself or a donation? How much is that worth? If I change an algorithm and people see x% more from politician A than politician B on my social media site is that a donation? And how will anyone even know I did it?
Everyone agrees the tax system should be fair. Only it turns out no one agrees what Fair means. The same applies here (and to similar political issues from electoral reform to the HoL to human rights etc)
How are foreign donors not already banned? Just get starmer out and have a clean start ffs
