There has been no sabotage behind last weekend’s cable break between Sweden and Latvia, the Swedish prosecutor’s office has confirmed.

“It has been established that a combination of weather conditions and shortcomings in equipment and seamanship contributed to the cable break,” said prosecutor Mats Ljungqvist in a press release.

The cable break was discovered in the Baltic Sea on the night of 26 January. The Bulgarian vessel Vezhen was subsequently seized.

However, in a separate press release, the Swedish Security Service wrote that the preliminary investigation is continuing to determine whether there are other suspected crimes.
