The Kingstons explained that they hope to see a reform to the way in which antidepressants are prescribed, with patients perhaps signing a document to confirm that they have been informed about the potential side-effects, which could, in extreme cases, include suicide.

‘We’d really like to see that a person, a spouse, a partner, a parent, a close friend, somebody, was going to walk with them through it. Maybe they should be at that signing time,’ Jill and Martin elaborated.

In January 2025, Lady Gabriella Windsor issued an emotionally charged statement at the inquest into her husband’s death. ‘I believe anyone taking pills such as these need to be made more aware of the side effects to prevent any future deaths. If this could happen to Tom,’ she said, ‘this could happen to anyone.’

She added: ‘The fact that he took his own life at the home of his beloved parents, where no one else would find him, suggests the decision was the result of sudden impulse and anxious thoughts sparked by the sight of the gun in the car boot.’Lady Gabriella explained that her husband had recently been affected by the suicide of a friend, having witnessed the impact it had on their loved ones.

Thomas’ father explained that his son’s sudden decision was completely out of character. Kingston left no will, had recently booked a ticket to South Africa, and had told his parents that he planned on visiting them more regularly.
